Formal Admission Requirements

Master of Public Affairs (MPA)

Students are admitted to the program by the M.P.A. Graduate Admissions Committee. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Applicants who have a GPA lower than 3.0 are required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and must score 150 in each Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning and 4 in Analytical Writing under the new (November 2011) GRE scoring, or under the old (pre November 2011) GRE scoring an applicant must achieve a 900 (combined verbal and quantitative).  In addition, applicants are required to demonstrate that coursework has been taken in the following areas:

  • a course in statistics
  • a course in political science or public affairs
  • a course in economics

Applicants who have not taken at least one course in each of the three areas above should arrange to enroll in these courses before or at the time of application to the program.

Under certain circumstances (such as relevant work experience), students may be admitted on a provisional basis. This provisional status is removed upon fulfillment of stipulated conditions. Generally, applicants admitted on a provisional basis must enroll in certain courses and must obtain a 3.0 GPA in all preliminary course work before they are granted full admittance to the degree program.

Checklist of Required Documents:

  • Application for admission
  • Essay describing applicant's interests and goals in pursing the MPA (300-500 words)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate programs attended
  • GRE scores (only if undergraduate GPA was less than 3.0)
  • Documentation of English Language Proficiency (see requirements here)

      For Summer semester admittance - February 1st

  • Conditional Admission

    Conditional Acceptance: Applicants who submit the previous described items (same as formal admission) and have met the academic requirements could be issued a conditional admission letter to the MPA program.
