Insuring your dependents
You are required to purchase health insurance for your dependents (spouse and unmarried children up to age 26) for the duration of their stay in the U.S.
Eligibility for IU health insurance
If you are enrolled on the IU International Plan, your dependents should be enrolled on the plan with you. Please ensure that your dependents are enrolld within 7 days of arrival in the USA, and be prepared to submit the information to the OISS. University services may be denied if students do not show proof that dependents are fully insured.Your dependents will not be automatically enrolled in the plan. You will need to submit an application to University Health Plans (UHP) by the semester deadline. Be sure you are already enrolled in the IU International plan for the semester, and then enroll your dependents. To do so, click here.
Dependent premiums can be paid at the time of enrollment or by monthly installments; however, dependent premiums cannot be charged to your bursar account. Dependent eligibility is effective and expires concurrently with that of the insured student, meaning coverage is only available to dependents if and when the student is insured under the plan. Dependent coverage cannot begin or end before or after the coverage period of the primary student or scholar.
